When you traveled with your infant all you really needed to have was a clean portable crib, but now it’s a different story. Your toddler is so creative. She considers anything within her reach a toy worth exploring. So, keeping certain things out of her reach can be important. Before you leave home call and speak to someone at your hotel in house keeping. Ask them whether childproofing equipment is available at your hotel. Some hotels offer childproofing supplies along with cribs and highchairs and some will even childproof your room before you arrive if you call and request it. However, if the hotel doesn’t offer child proofing and the thought of bringing your own equipment is out of the question, pack a roll of painters tape. When you get to your room, look around to see if there’s anything that needs to be moved out of reach, then get down on your knees like you did at home and view the room from your child’s perspective. Look under the bed and in the bathroom to see what needs to be addressed. With the paper tape you brought you’ll be able to cover any electrical outlets that are accessible, fasten a washcloth to sharp dresser corners, firmly fix all of the electrical cords to the floor, fasten the toilet seat down and secure cabinet doors and drawers so curious hands can’t get inside them. Using painters tape will allow you to remove it so that when you leave you won’t leave any tell tale signs that you’ve been there.
