Philips SCD 589 Monitor $200 The Phillips SDC 589 is a digital monitor which operates on a special frequency (1.9 GHz) that they claim will insure there will be no interference. Their ‘Automatic Channel Selection’ will choose from more than 60 channels to get a clear and private connection without interference within 900 feet. In fact Philips guarantees this! It has two parent units that allow both parents to monitor their baby, a rechargeable battery and 8 hours of cordless monitoring. Philips has also included a night light, recorded lullabies, light indicators to let you both see and hear if your baby is making noises, a temperature indicator if the nursery gets too cool, an indicator that will light up when your batteries are in need of recharging or replacing, and a 2 way intercom so you can respond to your baby. A few parents have complained that the cradles didn’t always work to recharge the batteries and that when they did it took a very long time to recharge, but all and all the only problem with this monitor is the hefty price. So, if you’ve had interference problems with the less expensive monitors and the price tag is not an issue for you, you’ll like the quality of this monitor.
